Police are asking for the public’s help to find a 52-year-old Waiehu man who was last seen Oct. 31 when he was loading a green Pelican kayak and fishing gear into his truck in Waiehu.
After family members reported him missing Saturday evening, Joseph Magaoay’s truck was found shortly before noon Sunday at Papalaua Beach Park near Mile Marker 11 on Honoapiilani Highway in Lahaina, police said.
Magaoay is known to go on overnight camping and fishing trips, but family members said it was out of character for him to be out of contact with his family for so long, according to police.
Maui Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard searches for Magaoay haven’t been successful, police said Sunday night.
Magaoay is described as Filipino, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has a thick tattoo band around his upper right arm and a tattoo with curved lines on his left shoulder. He was last seen wearing a blue tank top.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Maui Police Department nonemergency number at (808) 244-6400 or in an emergency, 911, and refer to MPD report 22-035487.
